Plan A is fucked. So I’ve been wondering what plan B might look like. As I talk to people I know, it seems that no one has a plan B at all. Everyone is just going about their daily lives as though everything is still on schedule. Operating as if the future is, you know a little rocky but everything is all good. Truthfully I think we can see what lies ahead. Maybe not with certainty but we know things are not all good, and we know we need to make adjustments, right? So why aren’t we making any changes? How are we so fearlessly marching ahead into a future that is uncertain, unfamiliar, and unkind?
If you have time to sit and contemplate what I am writing, you are probably living in a fucking bubble. Broadcast to you from the bubble, so not judging. But, poke your head out for a moment and tell me what you see. Oh shit, it’s chaos. That’s right, poverty, homelessness, hunger, pain, death, loss, and very shitty prospects for the future. Could you step over starving people while you eat steak? Oh, you can, well I hope you can hold on to it because there are many who will remove it from your hand. This is what the good life has and will come to represent. Are you ready?
“The apocalypse is not something which is coming. The apocalypse has arrived in major portions of the planet and it’s only because we live within a bubble of incredible privilege and social insulation that we still have the luxury of anticipating the apocalypse.”Terence McKenna
So why are people still going to Starbucks anticipating what the fucking flavor of the month will be? How confusing is it when a person buys a shovel, digs a grave, lies down in it, and then waits to die. What parasite has attached itself to our brains for us to slowly walk into a future that will without question destroy humanity, mentally and physically? What force other than God is powerful enough to deliver sight to the pervasive blindness that has infected our society. Too blind to see what we do, what we did, how we did it, and how to do something different.
Our environment is the nervous system of all human activities. Our most terrifying theoretical scenarios for the environment have become current and future realities. How do we survive without our nervous system? We have an economic system built not on sustainability, and principals of replenishment, but simply on profit. Sustainable profit? No, fuck it, let’s just see where this leads. Did anybody read The Lorax? Who would have thought all the business education needed was found in a fucking children’s book. How many MBA’s does it take to figure this out? Turn your brains on, or your hearts, or whatever it takes to start making sensible decisions for the future of our children, much less humanity.
“Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience, and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level. That’s the way the system works. And since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system.”Martin Luther King, Jr.
We arrest Ponzi schemers, yet our entire economy functions in an almost an identical fashion. We value education more as an increase to GDP than we do its ability to differentiate us from other countries and economies. Educated workforce? Ok, that was just rhetoric also, my bad. We use vast amounts of information to support targeted agendas of powerful influencers. Meanwhile, we have more than enough research data on how to develop all types of systems that work the way they should. We don’t. That’s it, we don’t do it. In an earlier post, I wrote about how the pay gap between men and women could be corrected with mere keystrokes. That’s it. That’s all it takes. Nevermind the backlash that would take place, the point is, many of our most glaring problems are easy to fix. But the question is, will we? Will we fix the problems that plague us as a society and be able to move forward to a more harmonious prosperous future? NO?
This little race baiting thing that is going on right now in politics is not a small thing. It will take a generation to reverse. There is an entire generation of youth who are being radicalized in both directions and for what? Political gain, at what cost? Who would have thought data would be the key to turn hearts into armies. Data has allowed advertisers to learn maybe too much about how to influence the hearts, minds, and subsequently the actions of individuals. Once many of these techniques found their way into politics, we were doomed. Will these harmful techniques find their way to the exit door? I will say this. As harmful as these techniques might be, they are extremely effective.
Movies always seem to foreshadow the future. Is it that movies, especially popular ones, speak to or from the larger consciousness of society. Many movies of the 20s and 30s spoke to the approaching prosperity and growth of America. Films of the 50s spoke to the security of the home, domestic nonsense, and achieving the, still very possible for some, American Dream. Even if that dream was delivered by a genie in a bottle. The 60s and forward brought us narratives of race relations, bullshit segregated happiness, questions of reconcilable differences between races, War, and the always distracting go to sex. Fast forward sixty years to a presidential election that would shape the world views for many. Frighteningly, maybe for the next fifty years. Fucking damaging, not to mention full throttle in reverse.
We could do this for each decade, which later became dominated by technology, just as our lives have today. But what dominates film now? Oppression, Death, enslavement, poverty, and brutal animalistic competition. Ummmm. Am I the only one who is seeing a pattern here? Is your bubble so fucking comfortable that you believe it will protect you from your oppressors? Just because your master gives you a little autonomy, and entertainment don’t go getting Stockholm syndrome on me? Fuck. Can we all please figure this out, please. Cause if I run into you in the hunger games arena, you won’t recognize me.
“If people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.”Ernest Hemingway
