Iconic.  What else can you say?  You clicked into this post because of her name.  Power. You want power? Oh, you are a hippie? You are not concerned with power?  False. Even you want power over you. But that power over yourself is the same power that we all desire, even if you haven’t found your way past lesser carnal, and materialistic desires. The strength you want lies in the power of now. Cliche, I know, and that’s exactly how the journey began, with some cliche statement made by a strange man on an afternoon talk show.

Oprah seized a moment.  A moment in our hearts and a moment in time.  Her rise was not meteoric as some might claim. It was toilsome, it was tedious, it was transformative.  We see it play out like a Hollywood movie. One scene you’re growing up in Kosciusko, Missippi, and in the next, your flying on private jets, and AAA listers feel your gravity.

Now.  Not what happened in the past, and not what will occur.  Now. In the movies, and in our fantasies, its all about what happened, what could have happened, what will occur, and oh God, what could occur.  But in reality, it is about now. What are you doing now? What will you do, now?

Eckhart Tolle is a strange guy.  In part because his demeanor resembles that of an intoxicated Dalai Lama at times.  Tolle is an Author, self-help, spiritual teacher, you know that whole thing. I saw this guy on Oprah.  He had written a book called “The Power of Now.” I was intrigued. Oprah was intrigued. You got Oprah to notice you?  If he had Oprah attention, then he most certainly had mine. I enjoy reading Henry David Thoreau. I would not, however, other than the novelty, like to hear him speak.  It’s just too much. I like spinach. Sometimes I like a nice spinach salad. But how much spinach can you really eat in a damn salad? But if I cook it, I can eat so much more.  This represents Thoreau or Tolle. Its just got to be boiled down for it to be palatable. Like a cooking show, I just so happen to have a pot cooking right here!

Now, listen.  Do you hear that?……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

What you heard is exactly what you are seeking.  Silence. Silence. The ability for us to be here in the now.  This is what the power of now gives us, clarity. At that moment you were not thinking about the past.  You were not thinking about the future. You were not even really waiting. There was no feeling of longing or regret in that moment.  This is the power of now.

That episode of Oprah was at least ten years ago.  I thought the idea was great, but a little hokey. Well from a boy to a man, I am now confident that the power of now, is the power that we all desire.  Take this with you and really think about it hard. Emotion, in almost all cases, lies in the future or the past. Feelings of regret lost opportunity, or feelings of what will come.  The concern with, will it happen, and will you be ready for what shows up.

We can be ready, by preparing today.  Yesterday has no bearing on today. Unless we allow.  Our feelings of yesterday slow, and dilute our actions of today.  On the other hand, our daydreams and nightmares of tomorrow also slow and dilute our actions of today.  So where doe success lie? Where is your Oprah moment?

Success lies in today.  Success is ultimately going to be determined by what you are doing today.  Not what you did, and not what you are going to do, but today. It is for this reason that we must strive to keep our consciousness here in this moment, today.

I have been depressed, I have been angry, I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I have loved.  I have even contenplated self aniliation. I have been through too many emotions to list over the past ten years, and if I did what would it convey.  To you? Nothing? Probably the most distinguishing factor of it all has been instability. Not because I am especially unstable, but because we all are, and if you disagree, well?  You’re delusional and unstable to boot. There is one place that I know I can always go and find peace, and tranquility. That place, is now.
